Here at Florida Keys Garden we utilize several different growing systems including just plain soil. The microgreens are grown in a climate controlled room where everything else (edible flowers, vegetables, herbs and fruit) are grown outside.
One of the hydroponic systems we use are called Tower Gardens by Juice Plus but we also use homemade Kratky systems, Dutch Bucket Systems and Flood and Drain systems. We also utilize homemade soil systems called wicking beds and regular old fashioned soil bed gardens. Because we try to reuse as much water as possible, the hydroponic and wicking bed methods work best for us as the water stays contained in the unit for an extended period of time so we only need to refill once per week at most saving water, time and energy.
Prior to Hurricane Irma our gardens took up the entire property. Post Irma, we are utilizing more vertical style gardening to increase yields so we can share with as many people as possible.
Tower Garden is a state of the art vertical aeroponic system allowing you to easily grow your own food. Step outside of your front door and grab the vegetables and herbs you want to prepare for dinner. It really doesn't get any more fresh than that. Plus, knowing what you have (or have not) sprayed on it, will give you peace of mind in knowing you have the best, most nutritious produce you can possibly get.
No green thumb? No problem. Tower Garden comes with an easy to follow instruction book plus, you'll have the support of a whole community of growers, including Florida Keys Garden to help you get setup and on your way to effortlessly grow your own food.
Using aeroponics—the same technology NASA uses—the Tower Garden soiless system grows plants with only water and nutrients. Because the water recirculates, it's not absorbed into the ground causing you to have to water again. That means you’ll be enjoying abundant, nutritious harvests just weeks after planting saving time and water.
Seed quality is important to us. Microgreen seeds should be untreated and uncoated as the concentration of the plant you are consuming will also include a concentration of any treatments.
